Marshall's pumping engine house

Back to list of mines

Marshall's Shaft started in 1881 and included a double skip road. To pump from it a 60-inch engine was bought from Wheal Jane in 1886 and erected there second-hand in 1887. The engine house was built over winter of 1886-87. The shaft was down to the 123 fathoms by January 1890 and 168 fathoms by January 1895. The engine was used for pumping Wheal Grenville after being acquired by that mine in 1903; it was scrapped 1923.
