The engine bedstone inside the engine house. The bedstone is a single block of granite with holes drilled in each corner to which the engine cylinder was bolted. The bedstone itself lies on the top of hardcore loadings which are about eight feet high: the bolts which held down the cylinder extend through the entire thickness.
