Site 2: Letcha Stamps.
This site is next to the footpath to Lower Bosavern and is easily
accessible. The footpath leads to Lower Bosavern, partly along the
course of the leat. The earliest record I have of this site is 1778.
In about 1830 it was known as 'Jas Thomas Stamps' while in the early 1900s
material from Polpry Cove was brought here for processing. The mill
is largely intact and includes wheel pit, stamps feeders and two
brick-faced dumb buddles. These are quite unusual; I have only seen
this sort of buddle at Botallack. The mill was presumably renovated
in the 20th century and a cement-faced convex buddle was fitted and there
is evidence that kieves were used.
